The Town of Stockton Comprehensive Plan Update is underway.
The Town of Stockton Plan Commission, with assistance from the Portage County Planning and Zoning Department, has begun the year-long process of reviewing and update the Town Comprehensive Plan, with a goal of adoption in late 2025.
A Comprehensive Plan establishes a vision and serves as a long-term guide for future growth and development within the Town. Per Wisconsin State Statute 66.1001(2) a Comprehensive Plan is required to be updated every ten years and contain information for issues and opportunities, housing, transportation, utilities and community facilities, agricultural, natural and cultural resources, economic development, intergovernmental cooperation, and land use.
Plan Commission meetings to review and update the Comprehensive Plan are held the first Wednesday of every month from 5:30 PM to 6:30pm at the Town Hall, 7252 6th Street, Custer, WI. Meeting materials will be made available upon request to Kristen Johnson (e-mail at johnsokr@co.portage.wi.gov or by mail at 1462 Strongs Avenue, Stevens Point, WI 54481).
Standing committees are permanent legislative and advisory panels established by the Town of Stockton to consider ordinances and issues and may recommend measures to the Town Board.
Due to their permanent nature, these committees exist beyond the range of each two to three year term of office.
The Plan Commission is charged with looking at land issues within the town. It has authority to recommend updates and enforce the Town of Stockton Land Use Plan. It has authority to have subcommittees and has an annual budget. The Plan Commission members are paid by the Town.
